Filming Stories of Succession

Chandra Sutanto originally had his own career aspirations after graduating from college. However, he was faced with another choice: managing the shop built by his parents. As the eldest of three siblings, he eventually decided to continue his father’s business.

This documentary, which I wrote and directed in late 2025, captures conversations between a father and son about the future of their family business. Their story reflects a broader research finding: on average, only around 30 percent of family businesses continue to the second generation. []
