Solving a Potential On Air Glitch

Solving a Potential On Air Glitch

During a daily operation of conducting daily talk show during December 2024 to July 2025, I encountered a critical moment that tested my ability to influence senior management and a key partner within my TV station. I identified a potential glitch in one of its segments—a guessing game in which participants would name musicians who had visited Jakarta for their concerts. The segment risked becoming awkward and disengaging, potentially affecting the overall flow and credibility of the program.

Recognizing the issue, I initiated a discussion with my peer producers and a creative team member who reports to me. Employing the Socratic questioning method, I guided them through a series of inquiries that led them to the same conclusion I had drawn. Instead of simply imposing my perspective, I encouraged critical thinking and collaboration, fostering a shared understanding of the problem and its implications for the show.

With this consensus, I took the next step—presenting my concerns to my executive producer. To make my argument compelling and relatable, I referenced a similar challenge faced by another talk show. This strategic comparison enabled my executive producer to quickly grasp my cautionary stance. Understanding the potential risk, he agreed to add me to the segment, ensuring that I could contribute and refine the presentation in real time.

Ultimately, my ability to communicate effectively and at the right moment led to a positive outcome. I was able to participate in the segment, lending my voice and expertise to enhance its execution. The impact of my contribution can be seen through this link: https://bit.ly/InfluencingTeam.

This experience reinforced the importance of strategic communication, timing, and the power of influence in media production which can also be implemented in other projects as well. []
